In January, I only ventured into Target because our daughters wanted to go and spend some of their Christmas gift money. At the beginning of the month, we were in the market for a bedroom dresser because my youngest daughter’s dresser fell apart over the holidays. Can I find what I need at a second hand or thrift store?

In 2015, the monthly challenge will be Choose Thrift First. Too often, I resort to the mall or Target when I need or want something. While I love thrift stores, I can be easily swayed to run into Target or Kohl’s when I’m in that part of town. Can I find what I need at a second hand or thrift store?

Stay within budget this holiday season with up-cycled Christmas gifts. To make up-cycling for holiday and Christmas gifts work, you will need to be a little crafty, however the end result will be a unique and personal gift. Cover thrift store finds such as boxes and crates with dish shards for an awesome magazine rack.

It’s just a Target dress, but it fits me like a much more expensive dress. We get to take our birthdays off as a “floating holiday”. Sweater, Thrifted Dress, Target Tights,Target Knee socks, Target Boots, GAP Kids Bag, Thrifted, Dooney and Burke Isabella Wolf Fang Necklace, Wendy Brandes.

And I got it at Target. I plan on wearing it just like this to at least two more parties or events over the holiday season because the combo of the jacket, necklace and dress is just perfect! That big, dramatic necklace is actually a chain I got at a thrift store for about 50 cents and a focal piece for Michael’s craft store.

As an alternative, head over to Walmart, Target, or another large retailer and pick a Slip ‘n Slide, or make your own , and buy some water guns or water balloons. You can often find board games that are inexpensive at thrift s tores , although it is a good idea to check them to make sure all the pieces are there before you buy one.
