Sometimes we need to find extra funds when big bills are due but often it is needed just to make ends meet. You might uncover some garments that have seen better days and should probably have been recycled some time ago. Anything you now longer want that is still wearable and in reasonable condition can be donated to thrift stores.

If you take care of what you already have, you won’t need to make as many purchases. You won’t need to make as many trips to the store if you make it a point to maintain what you already have. Whenever you buy new, you are using up resources. You can reduce waste in general when you buy used.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. Don’t buy, make. Mom’s black cape, some makeup and a piece of cardboard cut and painted black to make bats ears can make someone into Dracula. Re-purpose the used costume.

Recycling is a simple and obvious practice that children can easily understand. Teach them how to recycle household items like plastic bottles, aluminum cans, paper, etc. You can even let them manage the responsibility in your household and reward with them with the earnings from recycling cans and bottles at local recycle centers.
