Me in one of my money mistakes! We are privileged in that we both have good-paying jobs and have more than enough money to cover the bills. How did you get interested in saving money? I actually became personally interested in saving money after the embarrassing money mistake(s) I’ll tell you about in a couple of questions.

To learn to live within your means is one of our primary family money values. Each year I bring them together in my Grandma Rie’s Money Camp and focus on different aspects of personal finance, with saving being a focus in each camp. Why would they want to save their money to get pennies a year on their principal?

We planned our purchase in the heady days just prior to the recession of 2008/2009. If we hadn’t sold stocks and mutual funds to come up with the money to close the sale (cash on the table), we wouldn’t have generated a huge capital gain in 2007. Property value appreciation. Gather the family.

If you have money to invest, should you put it to work when stock prices are rising every day, or should you wait until the market goes down? I’m not financial advisor or planner or trader or fund manager, but since I have money to invest, I wanted some answers to this question for my own purposes!

Are we on our way to an actual depression (as opposed to the Great Recession)? If you want to read up on that stuff, plenty of it was written in 2008 and 2009. Write a book about our experiences during the Great Recession and this aftermath of it and offer it for sale. Am I just weird or do some of you also react that way?

Know beforehand if you plan on making money off your real estate via rent or capital gains. Will I make more money off of rent, or more money off of the increase of the value of the land? Areas where a lot of immigrants live are great for making money off of rent. Commodities tend to underperform inflation.
