When college was looming, my parents offered to let me live at home cost-free while I was in college, as their contribution to my higher education. Limiting waste is what really drives most of the habits I have that would qualify as “frugal” – reducing/eliminating food waste, returning unneeded items, pursuing refunds, checking on warranties, repairing things, etc. For me, being in the kitchen and making food for people is an act of love. The freedom was amazing.

Shop around at garage sales, thrift stores and online classifieds for furniture and other household items. Go to the library. Instead of buying books, check them out of the library. Find all kinds of fun activities you can do at home. Reduce convenience foods. You can end up well ahead in the long run. Drink water.
