Normally, I break my list down into three categories - budget, moderate, and splurge - but this year everything is under $120, and most are much less than that, so you can get more for your buck and be even more popular to that traveler on your list. Although you can do this too, we will leave space in the budget for you to buy these items. This is the category where cell phone bills, movies, electronics, video games, and the internet would fall. This portion of the budget would be a big fat zero. If you have made changes in your budget to spend less, what did you do?

Here are 5 ways you can do your part at work to improve the budget and limit your impact: Create a recycling program. It’s funny, we live in a technological world and yet we seem to duplicate everything we do electronically on paper. Use email programs, the phone, and video conferencing to discuss items with people.

The other thing we did was switch our cell phone bill. We’ve made hundred selling old video games, books, movies and electronics on eBay. How often do you and your spouse discuss your finances/budget/spending? We are both self proclaimed budget nerds so we both handle the budgeting and financial decisions equally.

It’s easy to make the switch, and with these items not on my grocery list, I’ve made more room in my grocery budget for actual food. Power down the electronics when they’re not in use. Use an inexpensive power strip to plug your electronics in at one central place. Examples: Replace paper napkins with cloth napkins.
