Take an afternoon and clean out all your closets, search the corners of your basement and attic for new, nearly new or usable, unwanted items. Cover thrift store finds such as boxes and crates with dish shards for an awesome magazine rack. These are great conversation pieces and are on target for office party gifts.

Don’t limit yourself to the thrift stores, either. Clean the house for someone struggling to find the time to look for a job. Ask what you can do to help out, and the service your provide, whether you edit a resume for free, or clean up the yard, will likely be appreciated. We usually send him home with the leftovers.

To make clean up fairly easy so that you can enjoy your guests, I have found really cute and inexpensive party supplies, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the dollar store. We’re having an Ugly Sweater party at our office this year. Gifts must be from a thrift store. Ugly Christmas sweaters are quite trendy this year.

It claimed that a clean workspace improved productivity and gave the illusion of being in control and on top of work tasks. I moved the furniture around; I had left it the same as when I took over this office and had never really been comfortable. Sounded good to me, so that’s where I decided to start. Do I need it? Be ruthless!

I use old casual office clothes to work around the house. I have a closet full of work clothes I wore to the office for 20 years, mostly casual slacks and blouses. There is a lovely thrift store not far from my neighborhood that receives donations from the folks in the local golfing gated community. Cheap or frugal?

It was an escape from the office, but it was eating up my budget…see what I did there! As my kids have grown, I have expanded my work hours at our office and by the end of the week, I’m too cooked to cook , so take out it is! It was a great way to clean out my jewelry box and make some extra bucks in the process.
