As always, life got in the way during the 2 years we spent writing FULL. Alayna graduated high school and moved away to college, all the while working on the book. She had to keep her “why” in mind every time she sat down to write in order to let go of the fear. Melissa’s challenges were more with scheduling time to write.

For 20 or so years I’ve been homeschooling my kids, and am now down to about 1 1/2 (one full-time homeschooler, and one doing College Credit Plus with some support). Makeup, nail polish, and clothes. But I had to SHOP for clothes. Cloth diapering. an illustration I did for one of my son’s books.

He didn’t have his first job until the summer between high school graduation and college. My mom expected both my brother and I to find employment when we reached the legal age of 15, and enforced it by having us pay for half of our school clothes (well, the ones we wanted. It’s like having a full-time job.

My mom cut coupons and sewed her own clothes and mine, as well. I learned from the best, but I believe that a personal finance course should be a requirement for both high school and college graduation. He says we were busy building the house and our careers and it was money well spent because it freed up our time.

I use my hands WAY too much for nail polish to last more than a day, and I vastly prefer a kind of “uniform” over having to make decisions about my clothes every single morning (that sounds exhausting!). They had me, and then my mom decided to go back to school full-time and get a PhD.
