Head to your local library, fabric or craft store, or bookstore and look for a how-to book on sewing. Although you can sew clothing by hand, it can be very time consuming and tedious. You’ll also want to have an iron and ironing board ready and waiting–they are very useful and in most cases essential when making clothing.

I bought hot curlers (they curled the ends but pulled out the fuzz), a straightening iron, and even a scary spinning contraption that was supposed to dry my hair while straightening it at the same time (but all it did was tangle and get stuck in my hair). In the summer months, this manifested into a mop of fuzz.

The slats are weathered with a few small cracks and the iron parts have some rust. I took it apart (which took about an hour) and am stripping the paint off the iron (think at least one can of paint stripper) and then will spray with Rust-oleum – and I just found out that the cans I thought I had had been used on lamps!
