We want to assist our daughters with their college expenses. We have a number that we want to save for each daughter.

Within a year after settlement, we found ourselves with a lot of debt, not enough cash flow, and very little set aside for emergencies. We had our daughters later in life and at a crucial time in our lives, I stopped our retirement contribution.
