Garden Harvest. I planted a small garden this year: 2 tomato plants, 1 cucumber, 1 pepper plant that sadly didn’t make it, and 1 butternut squash. I have toned down my gardening in recent years. At one time I planted quite a bit, but weeds overtook my garden and turned my favorite hobby into a stressful mess.

I have been doing my grocery shopping at a different GIANT store and I’m finding that they always have a lot of marked-down meat. Plasma Donations: $420. For starters, I didn’t donate plasma this month and that is usually my biggest source of extra cash. I filled two sheet pans and added some onion, salt, pepper, and basil from my garden. My August Grocery Clearance finds: I found lots of tea marked down to about 90 cents a box. But in the end, $155 is still a gift.

With all of the vegetables coming out of the garden, August should be the easiest month of the year to have one.

Before throwing away old clothing, I snip the buttons off and remove working zippers (unless I’m donating the item). Now we use them as chip bag fasteners as well as to hold the garden mesh netting on the chicken wire circles that surround my blueberry bushes – to keep the birds and squirrels from eating the ripening berries.
