As I was flushing a very old, forgotten-about, slimy Greek salad down the disposal last week, it occurred to me that I have gotten a little lax about leftovers at our house. (I I didn't compost the salad, because it had feta cheese mixed in) We certainly eat leftovers, but by the end of last week, we were (1) lazy and (2) lazy.

I have a grandmother who would never dream of buying containers to store leftovers or food for the freezer. She has always reused food containers, such as glass pickle jars or plastic cool-whip and sherbert containers, so I am not quite sure how or why I got started buying plastic food storage containers.

But I find food products to be a different story. Boxed, processed food coupons are very easy to find, but I try to limit those foods in our diet, so I really have a hard time finding coupons for food that we do eat. Institute a 'Raid the Fridge' Night One night a week, raid the fridge to get rid of leftovers.

Instead of using aluminum foil or plastic wrap to cover casseroles and leftovers, store the food in re-usable containers. She is always sending food home in pickle jars when we visit. My husband and kids won’t tolerate a bare kitchen and bad, boring food–they would seriously revolt. And finally…Junk Food. I occasionally buy junk food. I don’t want to blow our grocery money on food that has no nutritional value, but my family enjoys it too. Lunches Included: leftovers.

The leftovers can be stored in the freezer like I suggest below. If you want leftovers, you’ll want a bigger bird. Use a food thermometer to make sure the center of the stuffing reaches a safe minimum internal temperature of 165 °F. Here are 20 of my favorite leftover turkey recipes. Cook the turkey immediately.
