1 – Save a starter Home Emergency Fund. Dave Ramsey suggests to have a starter emergency fund of $1000 while focusing on paying off non-mortgage debt. We have definitely dipped into this fund often, so I’m glad I strayed from his advice here. 8 – Start college funds for our two girls.

We had been renting for over 10 years and we were ready to find a property to move our business to and eventually build our net worth. Also, the monthly mortgage payment was less than our rent payment. We’re no spring chickens, so in November 2016, we started contributing again to our retirement. Health Sharing Ministry.

At the time we were renting an office space in a strip mall, but when we discovered a foreclosure in our town that seemed like a great idea on paper, we jumped at the chance. But on the other hand, we’re 47 & 55… I’m surprised I can even type that… So in November 2016, we made a decision to pivot.
