Recycling is great for the environment and we should all be doing it (in spite of my title), but reusing is even better. When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. I have a grandmother who would never dream of buying containers to store leftovers or food for the freezer. She has always reused food containers, such as glass pickle jars or plastic cool-whip and sherbert containers, so I am not quite sure how or why I got started buying plastic food storage containers.

Because I love eating at food trucks, but I hate plastic utensils.and there's never anyplace to recycle them (if they even are recyclable). There's also the fact that sometimes those plastic forks and knives are just not sturdy enough for the food you're eating. Eat at food carts Another way to save on meals is to eat at food carts.

I’m always looking for ways to save my family money to help us get through current higher food and gas prices and achieve our big financial goals. There’s a better chance the healthy food will get eaten if it’s prepped, and it saves time on weekday mornings. The black container is from Thai takeout food.

According to the organization Waste Free Lunches , the average school-age child eating lunches in disposable packaging generates some 67 pounds of waste per school year. Everything in that lunch bag can be washed and reused or at least an be dealt with in an environmentally-friendly manner. The list goes on and on.

Before kids, I spent my free-time volunteering at a stray rescue shelter for dogs. After I had kids, I swapped that time to growing all sorts of interesting heirloom foods in my backyard. This doesn’t include the many free in-library activities we’ve enjoyed over the years. Louis means so many options for free activities!
