I view each month’s bill – whether it be from the water company, the electric utility, or the natural gas provider – as a way to gauge how well I am doing in my efforts to both conserve energy and save money. For natural gas, I track how many cubic feet I burned (it is billed in units of 100 cubic feet at a time).

Young men ran out to fill your tank, check your oil, try your tire pressure and wipe your windshield when you stopped for gas. Most cars did not have radios, non had any other kind of electronics. People listened to the radio, watched TV, went to the local (one screen) movie house or entertained themselves. My radio was AM only.
