We used to go out to dinner every Friday night, but we’ve put a stop to that treat as we work through some of our financial goals. This past Friday, we had a pizza night and all it cost me was $2.50. Sounds like a pizza to me. I served the pizza with fresh cantaloupe, homemade sugar-free applesauce and baby carrots.

The goal of Frugal February is NOT to feel deprived, but rather to find creative ways to get through the month without unnecessary spending.

What I Spent So I went to pull together my grocery spending for the week and I realized that it’s all quick trips to Safeway. Monday I had a snacky dinner earlier, and then when Zoe came home from her evening shift at work, she had a frozen pizza. I spent $63 at Safeway, spread out between an embarrassing number of trips.

I can only be pressed about so many things at one time, and right now, my grocery spending is not it. My main goal is to mostly cook at home, and other than that, I’m not stressing for now. Chiquita is rarely stressed, except for when I am too slow about dishing up her salmon pate. ?

I’m always looking for ways to save my family money to not only help us get through current higher food and gas prices but also to help us achieve our big financial goals. My plan is to use the sauce for pizza. My August Grocery Clearance finds: I found lots of tea marked down to about 90 cents a box. FREE Shredding!

We’ve seen higher grocery and fuel bills lately, so we’re upping our frugal game to help the budget. Our financial goals are still important to us and we want to hit them regardless of the rising prices. I use the pesto as a sauce for hot pasta or pasta salad, pizza topping, and spread it over grilled chicken or fish.
