Found Money in January: $1681. Found money can be found from various sources, such as rebates, refunds, online sales, or even the ground. Yep, I found a $20 bill last year on the beach! We think we’ll use the money towards summer vacation. The money is going towards new furniture for our basement.

We ran the numbers of the purchase and they looked great on paper, but paper doesn’t account for a new server, a roof leak, unexpected medical bills, and other calamities. We engaged in many strategies to find extra money to put towards the debt: We cut cable TV and our land line. We were trying to be responsible.

As hard as it was to do, we stopped contributing to our retirement for about three years and applied that money to these loans. In September 2001, we bought a 1700 square foot home with a one-car garage and ONE full bathroom. My husband drives a 2012 Nissan that we bought used in 2017 to replace a 2001 Honda Civic.

Our bills and responsibilities didn’t waiver however, even though our income dipped. It wasn’t that we had friction over money in our marriage, but as the business & Family Office Manager , I had taken on the stress of that cash flow crisis and tried to work it all out by myself.
