Save $10k in a savings account, specifically earmarked for medical expenses. I almost stopped writing goals down altogether.

My monthly savings goal was $100. This should cover my tentative 2019 Christmas budget that I based on what we spent in 2018. I added the check to our savings. In March, I added $70 in $1 bills that I had been setting aside for the past year. I’ll continue to do so to help pad the account. It became a habit.

Medi-Share Update: One Year Later

That was a hit to our budget, but we reworked our numbers to find the funds and make it fit. We hit our Annual Household Portion (think: deductible) with this medical event and our medical bills started to be paid by the other members’ shares. On the spreadsheet below, you’ll see that the December bills were quite high.

We generally don’t have a lot of medical bills–just the usual stuff like annual physicals, some blood work, and an occasional sick visit. With my husband’s encouragement, we decided to focus on our daughter’s recovery and healing and we would deal with the medical bills when the time came.
