Happy New Year’s 2019: In January 2019, we were down to one final non-mortgage loan, so we created just one financial goal for the year—-to pay off that last non-mortgage debt by December. In September 2019, my husband and I accomplished our biggest financial goal in our almost 20 years of marriage. Aside from the mortgage, we also added equipment and renovation loans with the purchase, and we had a student loan. It was so big that I cried for two days straight– we paid off six figures in non-mortgage debts.

But in August 2013 , our business softened, renovations to our new building were more costly than planned, and we were now the owners of two mortgages: our home and our business. We followed Dave Ramsey’s debt snowball method and paid the smallest loan off first while making the minimum payments on the other 4 loans.

Did you make 2018 financial goals ? We even bought an online package years ago, but have since decided that we will have a lawyer draw up our will, medical directive, and power of attorney documents to make sure everything is in place legally. If not, we’ll start saving in 2019. Move up the Student Loan Payoff Date.
