We spent the next few years building our savings back up to the level we had prior to 2007. What got us through financially? Our emergency fund. Yep, life was good.

Aside from the mortgage, we also added equipment and renovation loans with the purchase, and we had a student loan. We applied some of this extra cash towards debt and the balance was saved for medical expenses.

Our 2018 Financial Goals

2 – Save $10k in a savings account, specifically earmarked for medical expenses. We blew through our health savings account, and now need to save another $10k so we’re not caught off guard if another emergency were to happen. Save for a camper upgrade. If not, we’ll start saving in 2019.
