Since April, he made over $800 by selling 3 old bikes, unused furniture, a college fridge, a camping grill, a TV, and other misc stuff. I’m 47, married, and living amongst the cornfields in a college town in the Midwest U.S. As our family and household income grew, my husband and I made it a goal to put more money aside for emergencies, retirement, college, home improvements, etc. Another big win would be taking advantage of our great public library system.

In fact, their corporate buying office is in my hometown and I worked there while I was in college. This is key because, at GIANT, you need to join the loyalty program to take advantage of the weekly Bonus Buy savings and earn the rewards points. I actually took advantage of the free chicken dinner offer one hectic weeknight.

Over the years, I have found money through rebates, refunds, and online sales. I took advantage of a “welcome back” bonus payout that ended in July, so this average will go down in August. In the grand scheme of college funding, $200 is a drop in the bucket, but I always appreciate free money. Show me the Money!

I picked the wrong college major. Starting college right after high school, I had no clue about which careers I should consider. I did not take advantage of either high school or college counselors to help figure it out. I saved to send kids to college first, before retirement. I refused to accept offered help.
