I was raised debt-free and Barry was introduced to a debt-free lifestyle from his grandmother and aunt. After we purchased our house, we decided that it would be our last debt – so we worked hard and paid the entire thing off in less than 8 years. What inspired you to get debt free? Agree on the values and expectations you want your children to have in the area of personal finance and consistently teach and enforce those between the two of you (and clue in any significant others in your family such as aunts, uncles, grandparents and etc). Derailing them with sudden windfalls.

If your expectations aren’t met, look elsewhere for companionship or start training those around you to meet them. Years after an Aunt of mine died, I found an entry she had written in a diary. Just like there’s a cost of doing business, there’s a cost of doing friendship- attending social occasions, meeting for drinks, etc. For instance, my aunt never got married nor did she have any children. In response to the article, the concept of a “Friendship Tax” was introduced to me. But when has she been celebrated?
