Home decorating is another area where it may be possible to sew your own cheaper than buying. Easy deal and much cheaper than buying drapes at the time. Today it is much less expensive to buy your clothes, even if you buy brand new and certainly if you shop some of the chic re-sale shops or even the thrift stores.

But in August 2013 , our business softened, renovations to our new building were more costly than planned, and we were now the owners of two mortgages: our home and our business. I decided to use Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps as a guide and I wrote our first Debt Freedom Plan. Yep, life was good. March 2020 arrived.

Aside from the mortgage, we also added equipment and renovation loans with the purchase, and we had a student loan. Overwhelmed with everything, I wrote our first Debt Freedom Plan based on Dave Ramey’s 7 Baby Step strategy but tailored to our lifestyle. We buy reliable vehicle brands that are built to drive for many many years.

Facebook Marketplace (and local buy/sell groups) have made it much easier. Gently used clothing, baby items, furniture, electronics, small appliances, books, fitness equipment, and tools sell well. He has stayed busy for three months now and has done everything from installing ceiling fans to fixing toilets to renovating a townhome.

I want to challenge myself to rethink our purchases by taking advantage of more cost effective solutions, like borrowing, buying second hand, or just making do with what we already have.
