And I was pregnant with our youngest daughter, so what should have been a joyous year was quite a stressful one. Our emergency fund. I am totally paraphrasing the year, but had it not been for the money in our emergency savings, we would most likely have used credit cards to survive. It was a scary time for us.

We put the funds towards new furniture for our sunroom to replace a 15-year-old set that was outdated and very uncomfortable. When my husband hung a smart TV in the sunroom back in April, we started spending more time in the room–even our teenage daughters started hanging out with us. Ask and ye shall receive!

Get home, have to take hubby to work. Drive him, then get back to get my daughter ready for school. Had to work today so I worked at my real job until 4 when my daughter gets home. As soon as my daughter gets home, leave to pick up my stepson at the bus stop. Get home, and get my daughter ready for bed.

Being self-employed, we felt we needed more than Dave’s recommended $1000 starter emergency fund that he outlines in his book, so our first step was to save a bit more for our home and office. For us, we valued camping and our daughters’ activities. A leaky roof was one of the priorities to give you an idea.

We have a retirement to plan , our daughters’ college to save for, and many places to visit. Home Projects. We have some home projects that we need to do and we have already set aside the funds. We have more important things to do with our money besides sending a large portion of it to the creditors every month.
