Every night I dried the dishes (Mom washed), every weekend in spring, summer and fall I trimmed up the grass around the house, gardens and trees with the hand clippers. I learned that if I worked, I earned and therefore could save, spend or give my own money. They had low paying jobs and huge debt loads. Credit card debt is bad.

We also grow a large garden & lots of flowers, fruit trees & a 100-year-old grapevine. I seriously overextended on planting and underestimated how much work my dad used to do so hopefully I’ve learned from my mistakes & will not kill myself in the garden this year! How did you get interested in saving money?

How did you get interested in saving money? What’s the “why” behind your money-saving efforts? The weight of debt can be so heavy mentally in addition to the direct effects of it. Things that save time. Did you ever receive any financial education in school or from your parents? There are many!

” Kids (and parents) get excited about summer trips and activities, so I like to post a family calendar on the refrigerator with all of our summer plans and activities. Once you have a total, you know the amount you need to start saving for and it’s not too late to find the funds. I was an avid gardener for many years.
