Chances are that at least some of the time you bring your own bagged lunch to work or to school. Sure, there are days when you go out for a nice meal with co-workers or pay for the school lunch on pizza day, but when I think back to my school days I fondly remember those brown paper bags. Washable plates and bowls. Cloth napkins.

Recycling is great for the environment and we should all be doing it (in spite of my title), but reusing is even better. When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. Two liter soda bottles.

Plastic one gallon ice cream tubs (we love ice cream) make great containers to carry food to picnics or gatherings. They fit nicely into ice chests and won’t break.

Include breakfasts, lunches, dinners and even snacks in your planning. For lunch, we usually pack a cooler with food each day that we are at the beach and eat out somewhere for lunch on the one day when we need a sun-break. Usually there is enough leftovers for the last night to be a ‘clean out the fridge’ night.
