Unfortunately, to move them, I had to cash some the investments out in the 401K, leaving me with quite a few funds to get back into the market. In 2010 and 2011 I did get a lot of it re-invested, even though it was rising the whole time. My situation calls for getting re-invested in the market. What strategy are you using?

Vanguard’s Personal Financial Planner thought I should change invest all my retirement money in bonds when I moved it from my 401K to an IRA. Merrill Lynch Financial Advisers recommended I re-allocate to a ‘more appropriate’ conservative position. Do you use an asset allocation model? Stocks were cheap.

Tell us a little about yourself I’m a married mother of two teenage boys (18 and 16) who grew up in the country near a small town in Iowa. I just wanted to get away and I moved my 401K money to the advisor they referred me to.

Now, however, I hear that the company will not consider re-hiring anyone laid off in the first round. Since I didn’t soak the company for the benefits, I should have a chance at being re-hired should I decide to go that route within a few years. It would have meant about a year’s worth of salary.
