While we were still renting an apartment, I researched areas with lower property taxes, scouted out my ideal neighborhoods, and waited for a smaller, less expensive house to come on the market.

For the first year EVER in my adult life, I haven't yet submitted my tax returns. There was a time in the not-so-distant past that my refund would have been spent on shoes, or clothes, or trinkets, or, yes, more shoes. One day I'll be able to count my tax refund as a nice little gift, to be used for travel or other fun experiences.
