I’ve been an architect, day-care teacher to toddlers, and library clerk, but am currently a SAHM to a 14yo son and 9yo daughter. We rented at first, but the rental situation in our new town was poor. Nine years later, the rent for similar homes in our neighborhood is double the cost of our mortgage! Enjoying some outdoor time.

Many people are opting to store financial documents on their computers or the cloud, I have not totally embraced this concept yet and still have a file cabinet and safe for our documents. Around the time our second daughter was born, I found myself so overwhelmed and distracted that I missed paying the rent for our business office.

Back when I was engaged and living on my own for the first time (I lived with my parents while in grad school to save on rent), I went to the library a lot and found a copy of the Tightwad Gazette. We rent now and are much happier. People are surprised that we are in our fifties and renting, but it works for us.

I’m not sure that my two daughters-in-law would agree that you can get to the status of working as an RN without a 4 year degree (BSN) in nursing. She rents a space in a salon, managing her own client base, collecting her own fees, obtaining her own supplies, providing her own training and etc. Occupational therapy assistants.

And I was pregnant with our youngest daughter, so what should have been a joyous year was quite a stressful one. Our small business was going well, so we said so long to renting office space and purchased a commercial property in the summer of 2012. It was a scary time for us. What got us through financially? Our emergency fund.

Mickey’s Pantry will be the next, which is my favorite store on Disney property (a kitchen store, of course). For most of us, planning is half the fun.

Your Uncle is a manager at Walmart, have him take your graduate behind the scenes to explain the store systems and jobs. Your son or daughter visits different relatives in different cities, taking a temporary job in each to earn gas money and pay back their hosts for food and etc. Send your graduate on a trip with them.
