I started this site as a way of meeting some new people and having some interesting conversations and it has transformed into something much more than that. The site has grown and changed so much and I owe it all to you, my readers. While many personal finance sites focus on things such as getting out of debt, saving for retirement, and investing, what really matters to me the most is how we can live healthy prosperous lives. I am still in shock.

P.E.P. for the Week of March 7-11/11- Spending Time With Family Update Edition

Prairie Eco-Thrifter

Last week I told you that my hubby and I were headed to BC to visit my grandfather whom I hadn’t seen in 8 years. Strangely, it was like we hadn’t missed a beat and had been in touch this whole time. It felt so great to see him and bond. We took him and his wife to the aquarium where we spent 5 hours having a blast. Then we went for a real nice dinner and dessert. We also went for a walk to the chocolate shop and had a few visits at their new place.

Four Easy Ways to Save on Basic Necessities

Prairie Eco-Thrifter

People across the country are reining in their spending and pinching pennies in a concerted effort to save more money. The American culture is wrought with excessive spending so it is no surprise that the typical household overspends on necessities such as food, gas, utilities, and phone usage. Paying for prepared meals is convenient and tasty, but it’s also more expensive and usually less healthy. And, be sure to eat your leftovers!

Well, I signed up for 2 of the 3 I need to complete which are to take place this weekend and one other weekend in February. With getting ready for our trip to Vancouver and our trip to Asia and getting the house ready in case we have a flood here, my time is quite limited. In order to go to Asia we have to get 4 visas which is a tedious process and takes a lot of time. We also have to plan our itinerary, get our vaccines, and pack. Going Frugal.

P.E.P for the Week of January 17-21/11- Spread the Happiness Edition

Prairie Eco-Thrifter

I guess I have been making an effort to notice the great things in my life lately and it has been paying off; I go through most days feeling really content and happy. I was dressed warm and dancing away. My hands were banging on my legs, my head was bobbing, and I had a bounce in my step. I figured hey, why not spread the happiness around and put a smile on everyone’s face. We personally have CIBC Aeroplan cards which we find work great.

This year we participated in a fantasy football league and I must admit that both my husband and I became addicted. Most of the conversations we had with each other over the three months was what trades to make and who was an early pick up. You don’t have the stress of presents and huge dinners to prepare. It is just a fun night with friends and family rooting for their team and munching on whatever potluck treats were brought. Going Frugal.
