Five Frugal Things | better scrubs

The Frugal Girl

1. I bought two sets of scrubs at an outlet For my PCT job at the hospital, I can wear whatever scrubs I want. (So… definitely not my student scrubs!!) I’m scheduled for 70 hours in the next week and a half because of orientation and training, but after that, I’m not going to be full-time. So, I just bought two sets of scrubs, which, with strategic washing, will get me through this 70-hour stint.

The Frugal Girl

Guys, you are in for a visual treat today because M sent in some seriously lovely photos! Here she is: 1. Tell us a little about yourself I’m in my late 30’s; I grew up and have always lived in the Pacific Northwest. My husband and I have been married for 20 years and have two school-aged kids. My husband works a pretty demanding job and I currently am a homemaker/stay-at-home mom, and do some freelancing in my spare time.

Five Frugal Things | yard edition

The Frugal Girl

1. My neighbors and I did some yard cleanup When I moved into this house two years ago, there was a big pile of tree branches and brush on one side of the parking pad. And in the time since, I’ve added some to the pile (there are a lotta trees in this yard, and they are always dropping branches and sticks!) I have thought about hiring someone to come chip them all up, but of course, that would not be cheap.

Does delayed gratification = more appreciation?

The Frugal Girl

I’m thinking about this question specifically in terms of buying things. Basically, do you appreciate purchases more when you’ve had to wait for them? For me, it’s a yes. When I have to patiently wait to save up for something, or find something on sale/secondhand/free, then when I do finally get that thing, I really, really appreciate it.

Five Frugal Things | with two sandwiches

The Frugal Girl

I have a small sandwich theme going on. Are we surprised? (no.) 1. I got a free chicken sandwich At lecture, my friend alerted me that the Chick-Fil-A app had a free sandwich in it (something to do with the local baseball team, I think?) Sooo, I placed an order and grabbed my free sandwich on the way out of college. 2. I bought some razor blades on eBay I’ve used Dollar Shave Club for a long time and been very happy but…recently they redesigned their product line, which means I can n

Four Frugal Things (and one not-so-frugal)

The Frugal Girl

1. I planted some green onion ends I saved the root ends of two green onions that were in my veggie drawer, let them sit in water for a day or two, and then stuck them in the dirt in one of my outside pots, where they will grow new green onion tops. I’m not close to considering myself a gardener, but this is easy and reliable enough for even me!

Five Frugal (mostly tiny) Things

The Frugal Girl

Mostly tiny things this week! 1. I got an annual symphony pass So, after my little $10 symphony evening the other week, it occurred to me that other nearby city symphonies might also have a student program. And as it turns out, they do! Another city offers a student deal where you pay $35 and then you can go to basically as many concerts as you want over the next year for $0.
