My husband and I are self-employed and own a chiropractic office where he is the chiropractor and I am the business manager. After renting an office for 12 years, we had nothing to show for it and the space was starting to feel a bit cramped. However a few years ago, we found ourselves with too much debt and not enough cash.

The server in our office is about 10 years old and has reached capacity. We also have some renovations and equipment that cannot wait and we need to cash flow. Our current amount is enough where I sleep much more soundly at night. We are now on to our third step: Cash flow necessary business expenses. Unfortunately they’re not cheap.

Our small business was going well and we said so long to renting office space and purchased a commercial property. But in August 2013, our business softened, renovations to our new building were more costly than planned, and we were now the owners of two mortgages, our home and our business. Yep, life was good.
