In 2020, our financial goals were to read, research, and understand both college and retirement planning. …enter 2023 We have not one, but two teenage high school daughters. Our oldest is a junior in high school and college becomes reality in the fall of 2024. We want to assist our daughters with their college expenses.

I’m a long-distance cyclist, a triathlete, a wife, a mother of two, a sister, a daughter, a friend, DIY-er, and a community member! Sunrise with my daughter at Lake Michigan Our son is now 15, and about 25 hours into his private pilot’s license, which he’s funding by earning money working for my father-in-law.

Our daughter is 24 and was adopted from Eastern Europe when she was one week short of a year old. He married the love of his life almost two years ago, so now we have a daughter-in-law, too. The photos included with this post are mainly from our travel adventures. One is travel; the other is outdoor gear and equipment.

For 20 or so years I’ve been homeschooling my kids, and am now down to about 1 1/2 (one full-time homeschooler, and one doing College Credit Plus with some support). We also want to get our kids through college without them having loans to pay back, and we are 1 out of 4 on that so far! When we travel, we always drive.

At the time, I wasn’t sure how we were going to pay our monthly bills, so future plans like funding our retirement , our daughters’ college education, or a lavish vacation were not on my mind. Start saving for college. Continue to live debt free with the ability to travel more, give more, pursue our passions.

We had our daughters later in life and at a crucial time in our lives, I stopped our retirement contribution. When my own parents were the age that I am now, I was graduating from college. I want to live a long healthy life with my daughters and at times, the magnitude of what we need to accomplish financially is overwhelming.

Some of my finds: Red ladies’ size 9 red Converse for $2.50 – These retail for about $40 and this pair was hardly worn and will fit my oldest daughter. We want to travel to Disney and Hawaii. We want to help pay for our daughters’ college. We want to travel in an RV when we retire.
