You’ll know how much is in your checking and savings accounts and your retirement accounts. There was a time our spreadsheet reflected a lot of debt and not a lot of savings. I STILL use our spreadsheet today. You could also use a recent appraisal. Column J = Interest rate or the finance charge.

The proverbial saying ‘money doesn’t grow on trees’ is used by many a parent in denying some wished for item to their children. The trees are your investment accounts. Put the savings you made at the grocery with coupons into the savings account. Care for your investments and savings.

April is always a very expensive month for us. Our home-owner’s insurance, auto insurance, and local real-estate taxes (for our home and our business property) are due, and on top of that, we also owed the Federal government this year. I started our personal escrow account years ago, when we refinanced our mortgage.

They already have savings accounts that they don’t know about. I send in $50 every month to each of their accounts. Things like your savings account, your retirement fund, your house, investments accounts, real estate…these are all assets. Find yours and use it to make extra cash.

When I redid ours, I used that spray meant to re enamel tubs to re-finish the vanity tops. Possible sources include: Neighbors or real estate investors who tore out perfectly good materials and want to get rid of them. Garage or estate sales. Talk to people you know to find who they may have used for their work.

Because we only have a week to show results, and because savings account interest rates have been near zero each year since camps started, I have routinely given the jar 50% interest. Trepidation about having the grand-kids open a savings account. Both are now old enough to open a bank savings account.
