In previous years, I would create a long list of financial goals, only to have little accomplished by the end of the December. I almost stopped writing goals down altogether. In 2018, we decided to focus on just 2 main financial goals and before I share my 2019 goals I thought I would give you a recap on 2018.

One of the best ways to do that is to set realistic goals. In fact, one of my favorite things to do at the end of December each year is to set financial goals for the new year. I’m convinced that I’ve had such good luck achieving many of my financial goals because I write them down and keep myself accountable.

At my age, my parents had 20 years of kid-free living ahead of them to focus on their own career goals and to save for their retirement. My husband and I will be 68 & 60, respectively, when our youngest daughter graduates from college, leaving us with little time free from child-rearing costs to save for retirement.

On the 25th of every month from January to November, I'm holding a viral meeting for the Christmas Savings Club , a monthly accountability to help us save for a cash Christmas. As outlined in the first post , your goal this past month was to create a budget for your Christmas spending. My monthly goal is $100.

I earned a free ham at my grocery store in December, so I baked it on New Year’s Day. Found Money in January: I have an old savings account that I hold on to, because it’s at the same bank as my kids’ savings accounts. My goal was to eliminate all unnecessary spending. Yes, please!
