Recycling is great for the environment and we should all be doing it (in spite of my title), but reusing is even better. When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle.

Today, I am going to share with you 8 ways you can recycle, reduce, and reuse. When you are working on a home renovation, buy your screws, nails, and other bits out of the bins and not those packaged in boxes. Reuse what you can. We also save containers from items and reuse them for storage at a later time.

You can even save a few plastic grocery bags and reuse them at your local farmer’s market or grocery store. The only drawback to using grocery bags is that they are not insulated, so if you need to keep something cold, they are not going to work. Some recycling centers will recycle these bags as well.

However, there are ways to safely and beautifully reuse/restore items such as beds, sofas, chairs and decorative pillows. I used a shop vac, but any powerful vacuum would work. I know that having someone redo an upholstered piece is expensive, but I now understand why – there is a lot of manual and time-consuming work involved.
