We will probably be renting a car for our vacation this year. The sales tax, plus the ongoing higher property tax and insurance are really turning him off – and the van does fine if we drive it locally or just for a few hours to the lake. Choose the right car for your needs. Here is what I found.

We have a large (4 car widths) gravel driveway. The combination of front wheel drive cars and the added grip we get via the gravel lets us ease right on out to the road in snowy conditions. Gravel Doesn’t Cause The County to Raise Our Property Taxes. Many of our neighbors have gravel driveways.

Do you go into panic mode when your car insurance bill arrives? Does your property tax bill give you anxiety? Our homeowners insurance and property taxes are not tied in with our mortgage so we receive those bills and are responsible for paying them instead of the bank that owns the mortgage. That used to be me.

Our only spending going forward will be for essentials, such as our mortgage, utilities, groceries, our Medi-Share premium , and fuel for the cars. The van has been awesome, especially when our kids were younger, but it needed 4 new tires and I didn’t want to replace them if we were going to get another car.

Consequently, I overpaid for cars and real estate my entire life and I let others underpay me for my services. I bought new cars. Although we kept our automobiles for 8 – 10 years, I bought most of them new AND never dickered with the car salesman. Negotiation was not a skill that I learned. My spouse is a veteran.
